Print Poetry: Pocket Books!

In this workshop from Little Hirundine Books, Poetry & Print, join poet and printer Becca Drake to explore the landscape of the pocket book. How does limiting the space of the page - by making it very small - shape our writing in unexpected ways? You will begin by binding a miniature single section pamphlet, using craft bookmaking techniques, before filling this with poetry, led in experimental poetics exercises by Becca. All material provided, and no writing experience is needed. This workshop is all about having fun and getting stuck in!

Becca Drake is a poet, printer and researcher based in York. She/they completed a PhD on the sea in late-medieval English and Icelandic literature at the University of York (2023). Their work focuses on East Coast environmental histories and literature, and the place of the human in the natural world. Their debut poetry book Unstill Landscapes is out now with the award-winning Guillemot Press. They have experience running poetics workshops for the University of York, the Hull Maritime Museum, as well as for events at Spark York, The Arts Barge, Drawsome Festival, Zine Fest,York International Women's Week, and Make Space York. In 2024, Becca founded the small (cupboard) press, Little Hirundine, to experiment in printmaking and material poetics with a community arts focus.
